Discover the stories embedded in artist JR's mural projects, where augmented reality brings portraits to life by allowing you to listen to what each person in the mural has to say.

 <li>Individuals choose how they are represented in their portrait and then share their thoughts, experiences, or messages in an audio booth before being photographed.</li>

The Chronicles of Miami
In November 2022, JR's mobile studio captured 1,048 residents and visitors in Miami, collaging their portraits into a realistic mural that reflects the social dynamics of Miami life. Meet artists, service workers, business owners, and beachgoers among others who call Miami home.

Tehachapi
At a California Correctional Institution, 48 men — some incarcerated, some victims of crime, some correctional officers — shared stories of mercy, rehabilitation, and insights into America's legal system through a collaborative art project.

The Chronicles of New York City
In May and June 2018, 1,128 New Yorkers from diverse backgrounds had their portraits taken in their neighborhoods around the city, creating a unique cross-section of New York life through art.

The Chronicles of San Francisco
Inspired by Diego Rivera, JR depicted the portrait of San Francisco by photographing over 1,200 people from different walks of life. The monumental video mural was showcased at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) in May 2019.

The Gun Chronicles: A Story of America
In collaboration with TIME magazine in October 2018, JR explored various perspectives on the gun debate in the U.S. with a diverse group of individuals sharing their views and experiences related to gun ownership and gun violence.
